About

Why Forestline exists.

The forest line is the edge of the forest as it stood on 31 December 2020. Every plot must stay on the farm side of it. The name is a reminder of what Europe's no-deforestation rule protects, and of the farms that sit beside it.

One bad farm can stop a whole container.

Nigeria sells most of its cocoa and a large share of its rubber to the EU. From the end of 2026 Europe's no-deforestation rule (EUDR) asks every EU buyer to show that what they import did not come from land where forest was cut after 2020, plot by plot.

For a Nigerian exporter that is hard for plain reasons. Most cocoa farms are small. The beans pass through buying agents and cooperatives, and are mixed before they reach the port. Only about half of the plots are said to have a recorded location. Mapping by field team costs exporters tens of dollars a tonne.

Forestline is a way to do the work on a phone, at the buying post and at the desk: map every plot, check it against public satellite photos and forest records, follow the bags to the plot, and hand the EU buyer a pack they can use. We built it for the exporter, the buying agent, the cooperative and the field officer, because they are the ones who hold the facts.

Forestline runs on Amazon Web Services in Ireland, and Forestline AI reads are processed in the EU. The privacy page says what that means for your data.

Principles

  1. 01

    Facts first, with their source.

Every number on a result or on this site has its source next to it. Where we do not know, we say "not sure".

  2. 02

    Forestline AI reads. Rules decide.

Forestline AI reads photos, papers and voices and writes notes. Fixed rules turn facts into Clear, Check or Stop. The same facts always give the same result.

  3. 03

    A person decides.

Satellite photos are an indicator, not proof. A person in your workspace reviews every Check and every farm where the maps and Forestline AI disagree. A named person approves each handoff. The reason is kept.

  4. 04

Never claim a clearance we cannot give.

Forestline gathers and checks the evidence. The EU buyer files the EU form and stays responsible. A pack with complete evidence and an approval is ready to hand to your EU buyer, and that is all we say about it.

  5. 05

    Open data, credited by name.

We read public records and say which ones, with versions, so anyone can repeat a result.

  6. 06

Built for the phone and the buying post.

Plain words, short sentences, and a map that works with no signal. The people who walk the land should not need training to use it.
